Wednesday!

The Advanced Camp show continued to come together during rehearsals today. The campers all visited the costume tent and this afternoon was spent painting sets and props.

Meanwhile, the Road Show had quite an adventure in Burlington. They performed for elementary school children this morning before their big show on Church Street! The show was set up in front of the mall on Church Street as the Road Show campers got a taste of what real street performing is like.

After dinner the morale committee treated the camp to another surprise - as the campers came back to the dorms for chores and rest time, their way was blocked by hundreds of balloons! The hallway was packed with balloons and streamers were everywhere.

When it was time for evening tent time the Advanced Camp ran their finale while the Road Show rehearsed, and then played lots of juggling games. Circus training came to an end for the day, and the campers came back to the dorms and quietly got ready for bed... (aka dance party in the hallway).

Monday and Tuesday!

Monday:
The Advanced Camp continued to work on their show during the morning and afternoon tent times on Monday, which included developing the stories of the individual acts. Meanwhile the Road Show set out on their first van ride to their first non-Derby Line show!

After a "decades" dinner and chores the campers headed back down to the tents for the Staff Show! The staff put together an hour and a half long display of their circus (and non circus) talents to show the campers.

Tuesday:
This morning as the Road Show set off for their second day of touring the Advanced Camp continued to develop their show. Many of the acts have come together and are now putting on the finishing touches and rehearsing rehearsing rehearsing.

After the afternoon tent time was over many of the campers joined in on an amazing game of kickball on the common before getting dressed for dinner. Tonight's theme was "Star Wars / Nerds," and was absolutely hilarious.

Once dinner and chores were complete there was more evening tent time, during which the Road Show wrote a new finale and the Advanced Campers enjoyed some free time after working on their show's finale. When the campers arrived back at the dorms the "Morale Committee" had hot chocolate waiting, which made a nice warm treat before bed.

Saturday and Sunday!

Saturday:
Advanced Camp enjoyed a fantastic day off from camp on Saturday at the Derby Line Community Days Fair! The Road Show performed three times during the afternoon, and then they joined the rest of the campers wandering the tag sales and enjoyed their fill of sugary snacks, caffeinated beverages and fried fair food.

After boarding the buses home the campers got ready for "Look what I bough at Derby Line" dinner, followed by movie night! The whole camp gathered on couches with pillows and blankets for a screening of the oh-so-popular "Stick It."

Sunday:
Today the campers were back in the tents working hard. The Road Show was treated to a morning of rotations, which meant they attended all four morning classes, and got to enjoy some time up in the air on the Fabric and the Trapeze.

In the afternoon the Road Show made some adjustments and even added a new act to their routine, while the Advanced Camp began preparations for their own show! A basic plot was outlined and the campers chose and began work on individual acts during evening tent time. However, there was still plenty of time to enjoy non-show related circus fun in the evening, which tonight included a bit of fire juggling!

Eventually it was time to head up to the dorms and hop into bed - which was especially important this evening, as tomorrow morning the Road Show will be off on the road for their first performance!

Friday!

Friday was another exciting day of circus for the Advanced Campers! The morning went well, as always, and the campers enjoyed a treat of stretching (instead of strengthening) after training was done.

Afternoon Choice Time meant practice practice practice for the Road Show, who performed their show for the entire camp during evening tent time. While the Road Show rehearsed the rest of the camp enjoyed choices such as Lyra exploration, Fabreze (Fabric + Trapeze) and the ever so popular water spitting.

After training the campers got dressed for "It Came From Under the Bed" dinner, which included a few dust bunnies, lots of socks, and a few clever campers who dressed like their roommate who sleeps on the bottom bunk! Once dinner was consumed it was time for performances!

Advanced Camp performed pieces they had been working on throughout the week before the Road Show presented their completed show. The Advanced Camp then chose a theme for their show (which shall remain undisclosed for the time being) before the Road Show presented the result of all their hard work.

The Road Show was absolutely amazing and the audience was laughing throughout the entire performance! They will perform three shows Saturday afternoon at the Derby Line Fair and then travel to various nursing homes and preschools throughout next week.

As the performances came to an end for the night the campers headed out to the field for a quick game of capture the flag before heading to the dorms for an early bed time!

Hooray for Thursday!

Thursday was the fourth day of training for the Advanced Campers.

Morning rotations went smoothly as the campers continued to learn more and more about the different apparatuses and props. In performance the campers threw on funny costumes and practiced some character work.

After a very restful quiet time it was time for afternoon training. When afternoon Choice Time came to an end the campers enjoyed a special treat - a visit from Rob Mermin, founder of Circus Smirkus!

Rob came and performed some amazing tricks with bubbles for the Advanced Campers. Once the bubble tricks were over the campers asked question about bubbles, and also about stories regarding some of their coaches who happen to be former troupers!

Dinner and chores came and went and it was time to walk down to the tents for evening tent time. The campers continued to work on their amazing talents, while the Road Show came closer and closer to finishing their show! The campers enjoyed yet another treat before bed, as the counselors brought cookies and hot cocoa down to the tents!
